Secret societies have been a part of us ever since they are believed to exist. Though we don’t know any of their secrets, all of us know that such societies certainly do exist. Why did Ashoka set up the secret society?
It is believed that Ashoka the Great considered knowledge as the ultimate power. In his view, it is a must to collect, nurture, and use the knowledge in such a way that can be used for great deeds in order to preserve it. He furthermore declared that if this power of knowledge goes into the wrong hands, the outcomes would be terrible.
Hence, with this belief, he summoned nine men with brilliant minds in India and formed a secret society named The Nine Unknown Men. These nine men were chosen on the basis of nine disciplines namely Propaganda, Physiology, Microbiology, Alchemy, Communication, Gravity, Cosmology, Light, and Sociology. All of these disciplines together formed what could make a ruler all-powerful.
Moreover, in case of a member leaves the secret society because of death or other reasons, a successor is chosen in his place to complete the pattern of having 9 members.
What does the secret society of The Nine Unknown Men hold?
The nine disciplines of this society consisted of some such subjects which were forbidden, controversial, and mysterious. A few of these are: ‘The Touch of Death’, communication in advanced form, transmutation of metals etc.
‘The Touch of Death’ was studied as how to kill someone with only one touch. Communication in advanced form dealt with extraterrestrial communication with aliens. And, transmutation of metals was part of Alchemy which studied the conversion of metals to gold.
Furthermore, it is also believed that modern-day Judo came from the ‘The Touch of Death’ upon getting the knowledge leaked from it.

Well, it is a belief in many that famous and influential scientists and artisans have been a part of Ashoka’s Nine Unknown Men. Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein and APJ Abdul Kalam are believed to be the members of this secret society.
