Kamala Lochan Baliarsingh, the Homeless Man Who Feeds the Street Dogs Before Filling His Own Stomach
The world would have been better if all humans would think of animals as a co-existing species. In simple words, if humans knew that they have no right to exploit animals and that they have an equal right to their freedom and life, the world would have been a different place. Humans have certainly dominated the earth because of their intelligence which other species do not possess. However, their intelligence has swallowed thousands and lacs of other species’ lives.
Humans believe that the earth belongs to them only and everything else exists for their sake. For most of us, animals have no emotions, no pain, and no needs, and their lives don’t matter. We can do whatever and whenever we want with them according to convenience. Where the majority of us share this thought process, there are quite a few who do not belong to this category.
These people have compassion and empathy for animals. They understand their emotions, needs, and pain. They know that these innocent animals need us. We are intelligent beings on earth, and a few of us use this for helping and saving animals rather than killing or neglecting them. These people understand that if we cannot do anything good for them, then we should at least let them be instead of exploiting them.
Who is Kamala Lochan Baliarsingh?
Kamala Lochan Baliarsingh belongs to the second category of people. He lives in Odisha. The man is poor and homeless. He has no roof over his head and no job to feed himself. He sleeps on the footpaths and earns little or none from recycling the bottles after cleaning the platforms. Whatever little he earns, goes for filling the stomachs of 7 dogs first. Kamala eats after his 7 friends have eaten. Thus, he sometimes remains empty stomach. However, he makes sure that his friends never go empty on their stomachs. These 7 friends of his visit him daily at midnight.
Kamala has depicted a true picture of compassion, love, and care. Feeding those 7 dogs on empty stomach himself is more than a human could contribute to any greater cause. What does he get after this act of kindness? Love! He gets the love and attention from those dogs in return. And that’s all. Nothing else! Love!
Kamala is maybe alone and he finds that missing love and bond of family with those dogs. By feeding them selflessly, he has established that special relationship with them which cannot be understood by those who haven’t experienced it. Hence, to understand animals, and to make a bond with them, we need to be kind towards them. If the majority of us could experience this bond, something maybe would have felt different, perhaps the world with perfect harmony.
