An Inspiring Story Of Mukund BS
Technology is an integral part of humans’ existence. Today, there is no survival without it. Wherever far you see, you find technology; the present is technology, and the future is technology. It has made half of the things possible. It has helped us understand a great number of things. With advancing technology, convenience has been becoming our inseparable partner.
Where there is a race and desperation of inventing new technology, there are some people who invest their efforts in making the already existent technology in re-using it. Today we have with us a young man Mukund BS who runs a company named Renew It with the same ideology. Mukund is an electronic engineer and an IIM graduate. His company collects scrap computers from corporates, fixes them, and sells them at such prices that anyone can buy them.
The idea of this business came to his mind when he was once travelling with his uncle
The incorporation started in 2009 and the company came into operation in 2010. Initially, Mukund was a single person running the company and handling everything on his own such as marketing, managing finances, meeting clients etc. Gradually, his cousin also came along and the company eventually grew to a team of seven technicians and salespersons.
Their business model is quite simple. They tie up with the corporates and take the scrap computers. Then, the company’s team of technicians turn the scrap into working computers. However, buying scrap computers from corporates is a long process which sometimes takes up to six months. The system is also not organised as people mostly sell the scrap at per kg rates which are not supposed to be working in the case of computers. After the first process of getting scrap, the technicians then start working on converting them into working machines. This step further takes around 2-3 weeks. In fact, it depends on the machines how much work they require to get fixed.
Within a span of 5 years, the company has sold 10,000 computers so far
However, with advancing technology, Mukund is not sure about the future of his company. He stated that when he started the business, smartphones did not exist and computers were in extreme use. However, today, our phones have almost replaced computers. People now use their phones more than computers to get their work done. Besides, there are other a couple of challenges that he faces as an entrepreneur. For example, the unavailability of the right type of scrap. And, dealing with the customers from not so developed areas who lack knowledge of how a computer works. They sometimes fail to handle the computers properly which obviously reduces the life of a machine.
According to Mukund, he believes in working well because if you work well, money eventually follows. Also, he has learnt patience through his entrepreneurship journey. He believes that sometimes all you need is patience and to let things fall into the right places. Furthermore, he states that a person doesn’t have to answer to everything. Making mistakes is a part of us. Above all, money is always the by-product. If you do the right thing, it will eventually come.
