Kamaljit Kaur And Her Journey With Kimmu’s Kitchen
Kamaljit Kaur was born in a small village in Ludhiana, Punjab. However, she moved to Mumbai after her marriage. Life went on as usual for her until she turned 50 and the world was hit by the pandemic. Kamaljit Kaur though recovered from it but she could not shake the feeling and help thinking that she was given a second chance in life. She was grateful for her life.
Ever since her recovery, Kamaljit had been roving around a thought of doing something. Something which can be contributed to society. Don’t forget that she was born and raised in Punjab. A prosperous land filled with fresh healthy food in form of milk, ghee, vegetables, etc. Living her life in Mumbai always made her lost in the thoughts of her village back in Punjab and its liveliness.
She started thinking of it more after recovering from COVID-19. Back in her village, her family had their own buffaloes and farm providing them with fresh milk and vegetables. With the idea of providing for society and living her second chance to the fullest, Kamaljeet decided to produce and sell healthy fresh ghee to all the cities of India like Punjab.
Birth of Kimmu’s Kitchen
Her husband and children stood with her. And, after the market research they came to learn that there can’t be any other best idea than this. To sum up, they learnt that the demand for ghee is more than the supply. Moreover, all the big brands import cream blends to meet the demand. Most of the time that ghee is actually a blend of cream from goat’s milk, and camel’s milk mixed with cow or buffalo’s milk.
Kamaljeet Kaur stated that it is not those brands’ fault as even if they source the milk from all the farmers of India, it still will not be possible to meet the demand for ghee. However, she knew what she had to serve and how. She finally thus opened her ghee start-up and named it Kimmu’s Kitchen.
What makes Kimmu’s Kitchen special from the rest?
Kimmu’s Kitchen specialises in farm-fresh ghee which is free of additives, or other chemicals like preservatives etc. What makes it even more special is that it is made by the traditional method of Bilona. Bilona method basically comes from her village. She had always seen her mother, grandmother, and aunts making ghee at home. Thus, she was also familiar with the Bilona method.
Initially, Kamaljit procured the milk for ghee from her place Mumbra in Mumbai. And although her relatives and knowns were loving the ghee she was making but she was not satisfied herself. She had tasted the ghee of Punjab ever since she was born so she could find what was missing in her ghee, unlike other people. She figured that the environmental factors, milk freshness, and the feed create a huge difference.
She knew how to change the taste game that was missing in the current production. Her family back at the village in Punjab added more buffaloes to the farm. And that’s where the magic takes place and the ghee is transported to Mumbai for distribution.
Kimmu’s Kitchen Ghee
This ghee comes directly from the farm and is light, non-greasy, and has no strong smell. Moreover, it digests easily. This brand sells at Rs 1,100 a kilo whereas other brands sell at Rs 3,500 for the same quantity.
The reason that it is more affordable than the rest is that she has her own farm and buffaloes and so it doesn’t require much to spend except for the labour involved. Most importantly, Kamaljeet also experimented with butter and cheese with the purpose of bringing it into the market. However, the shorter life span and the already huge availability of variety led her to abandon the idea and stick with the ghee only. Pure healthy tasty ghee is available on Kimmu’s Kitchen website.
