Mani Vajipey’s Company Banyan Nation Recycles About 10000 Tonnes Of Plastic Per Annum
Mani Vajipey was disturbed by how the waste is generated enormously in India. This is then witnessed as filth scattered on the streets and roads. He was so desperate to improve this condition by finding the real culprit and the solution to it. The thought of walking on this road started bugging him when he made his trip to India. He was pursuing MBA during that time and was an employee at a multinational company.

Mani was joined by one of his friends on this journey. And they came to learn that the main culprit of this problem was poor recycling. Moreover, the solution was also the same but the other way around. In simple words, effective recycling is all that was needed to tackle this situation.
Before they reached the solution, they of course worked on hunting down the root of the cause. So they decided to get into India’s humongous non-recycled waste problem as the first step of their initiative. Mani and his friend contacted waste management contractors, multinationals, rag pickers, scrap collectors, and scrap dealers. That’s where and how they landed on finding the root and the solution.

After accumulating all the necessary knowledge and learning how they are going to tackle this problem, they co-founded Banyan Nation. They launched it in 2013 after resigning from their jobs. Banyan Nation is a vertically integrated plastic recycling company based in Hyderabad.
How does Banyan Nation work with waste management?
Banyan Nation collects plastic waste in large quantities and then produces exclusive quality recycled polyolefin plastics. This further is used in premium packaging applications. For example, detergent, shampoo, bottles, lotions etc.

Most importantly, Banyan Nation has recycled over one lac tonnes of plastic until now. They can process 1000 to 1200 tonnes per month. Above all, they have served major clients such as Hindustan Unilever, HPCL, Shell, and Reckitt. The company has produced over 300 million FMCG bottles from recycled plastic.
Why is it still a long way to go for Banyan Nation?
The company recycles about 10,000 tonnes of plastic per annum. Whereas the production and consumption of shampoo bottles and lotions in India are 5 lac tonnes every year. The recycling amount is yet way lower than the production and consumption amount. Hence, the Banyan Nation has a long way to go yet to come to equal terms with plastic waste and its recycling.

This company deserves greater heights and recognition for doing an amazing job. We wish them luck and hope to grow even larger so much so that they can charge the recycling game up to what is required to control the plastic waste and its recycling totally in hand. Moreover, the company satisfies the US and European Union’s packaging and plastic safety standards.
