“In the Tirupati laddu row, the Supreme Court’s stay is a step towards fairness, clarity, and trust in sensitive investigations.”
The Supreme Court of India on [ Friday (September 26, 2025)] stayed the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s order that criticised the CBI Director over the probe into adulterated ghee used in the famous Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) laddu prasadam. This case has gained a lot of attention because it mixes law, investigation, and strong public emotions.
Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had raised concerns about the role of J. Venkat Rao in the case. Rao was not formally part of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) but was allowed by the CBI Director to take part in the investigation. The High Court said this was not correct and questioned whether Rao should have been involved.
A bench of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Bhushan R. Gavai, along with Justices K. Vinod Chandran and N.V. Anjaria, decided to put the High Court’s order on hold. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI, said Rao was appointed only to keep records and was not part of the actual investigation. He added that the High Court’s comments could disturb the ongoing probe and affect the trust in the SIT.
The Supreme Court’s decision now allows the CBI to continue the investigation without any restrictions from the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s earlier order. This means the probe can move forward without delay and look into the issue in detail.
The Tirupati laddu is not just a sweet; it is a symbol of faith for millions of devotees. The idea that adulterated ghee might have been used has upset many people and made this case very sensitive. This matter has led to discussions about the importance of keeping religious traditions safe and making sure investigations are fair and open.
The Supreme Court will hear this case again on October 3, 2025. Until then, it remains a topic of interest for the public, the legal community, and devotees.
The Supreme Court’s decision in the Tirupati laddu row shows the importance of fair investigations and respect for faith. It is a reminder that law and trust must go hand in hand, especially in sensitive cases.
