Founder of Earthling First
Sustainability has both short and long-term benefits. It showers us with clean air, the growth of reliable resources, nontoxic atmospheric conditions, good water quality and cleanliness. It is an absolute necessity to make more sustainable choices to maintain the earth’s ecosystem. And, it is an absolute certainty that if we don’t maintain the harmful processes with no change, we will end up with adverse consequences. For example, many animal species will go extinct, we will face the scarcity of fossil fuels, and most importantly, the earth’s atmosphere will be damaged beyond repair.
While most business excretions hardly care about the environment’s health and have been creating adverse impacts on it unstoppably, there are a few such people who are not only firm believers of environmental sustainability but also avid practitioners of it. Above all, creating awareness of sustainability and encouraging others is a great change on its own. A few such people are Tamanna Sharma (founder of Earthling First).
Who is Tamanna Sharma?
Belonging to New Delhi, Tamanna Sharma comes from an army and activism background. While her initial interest was in Journalism, she found herself more into campaigning than reporting about it. That’s when she became an environmental activist. She additionally became the project manager for a private waste management organisation.
However, after a while, she was done being on the side frames and decided to become a lead. Today, she is the founder of Earthling First Corporation.
Earthling First Corporation and Its Mission
Sharma found Earthling First in 2016 as a one-person company by incorporating the sum of one lakh rupees. She is the director and owner of the corporation. It is a voice of waste management and sustainability consultancy situated in New Delhi. The company is active in organising and dealing with sustainable events and spaces, waste management, green weddings, and eco-treat. It has been working tirelessly to supply finer eco-friendly projects.
What is the mission of this Corporation?
Through Pan India Service, Earthling First has been focusing on creating clean, green and, sustainable events. Its mission stands to save landfills from waste. Through strategic disposal of waste, sustainable planning, and waste management, they help organisations in decreasing waste generation.
The Corporation has also launched ‘Project Jalori, an experimental waste management & eco-tourism model by Earthling First at 10000 ft above Sea Level in Himachal Pradesh.’
When Tamanna Sharma started the Corporation she had a vision in her mind to organise sustainable and eco-friendly events to control waste. Because events are the places where the waste happens in a large quantity. She experimented with segregation and partnered with the right waste management organisations and thus understood how this whole thing works. The consultancy gradually took in clients. Moreover, she also considered workers’ safety and dignity as an essential part by providing them with gloves and masks. Sharma was also considerate about women and men having equal opportunities and wages in work. She hired more women to maintain an equal ratio between both genders.
What Inspired Sharma to Create the Earthling First?
According to her interviews, she attended an Environment Day event which sowed the seed in her to create a consultancy and waste management service. Interestingly, it wasn’t the event that became her inspiration but the litter which was left behind became her actual inspiration. Eventually, in 2016 she began her journey with 5 people in a single city. By the next year, her corporation expanded and got to work with big organisations such as Oxfam and Maruti Suzuki Devil Circuit, etc.
What is Jalori Project?
The motif of creating the Jalori Project in 2020 was to protect the environment from plastic and burning waste materials. Jalori is a tourist place and because of the increased tourism, plastic waste is littered in huge quantities there. And this plastic waste, as a result, abolishes our environment. Hence, they chose Jalori as their mission place.
The Pandemic closed the activities in Jalori which allowed Earthling First to implement sustainable practices in Jalori. The Corporation aims to collect plastic waste and put it to recycle. This action has prevented damaging the place and increased tourism. Tamanna Sharma’s idea and her team’s efforts have of course made this possible.
Was it Worth it?
The initial days of struggling to make a place in waste management and to finally become a name today represent Tamanna Sharma’s courage and fighting spirit for the betterment of our environment. She has stood as an inspiration for organisations that were not aware or cared the least about environmental sustainability. She has thus brought healthy changes in people’s mindsets about the environment and in the environment itself. We hope that those who were not aware of sustainability, will become more sincere and inspired to follow the footprints of people like Tamanna Sharma after hearing her story.
The Corporation has its website earthlingfirst.com which mentions all the projects, services, and everything it undertakes in detail. Youngest Indian Activists That Are Bringing A Change Out There
