The National Lok Adalat is a large-scale legal redressal system under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. It aims to settle pending and pre-litigation cases quickly, fairly, and without heavy court fees. In Delhi, the Lok Adalat is particularly useful for motorists with pending traffic challans, as it allows them to close cases with heavy rebates.
The next Lok Adalat is scheduled for September 13, 2025, across seven district courts in Delhi including Patiala House, Karkardooma, Rouse Avenue, Tis Hazari, Saket, Rohini, and Dwarka. The session will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
To participate, citizens must register online for a Lok Adalat token. The process involves visiting the Delhi Traffic Police official website, accessing the Lok Adalat Token Registration section, and entering vehicle registration details, challan or notice information, and personal contact details.
After submission, participants can generate and print their token and appointment slip, which are mandatory for entry. Registration began on September 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM and is capped at 60,000 challans daily with an overall limit of 1,80,000 challans until September 13.
Participants must carry essential documents to the court, including a printout of their challan or notice, the vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC), a valid government-issued identity card such as Aadhaar or Voter ID, and the Lok Adalat token or appointment slip. The Lok Adalat has also placed restrictions on the number of cases per vehicle. Private vehicles can resolve up to five notices and two challans, while commercial vehicles are allowed to settle up to two notices or challans.
The Lok Adalat handles only compoundable traffic challans such as helmet or seatbelt violations, parking fines, signal jumping, and minor overspeeding cases. Serious non-compoundable offences like drunken driving, rash driving leading to accidents, or hit-and-run cases are excluded from this process.
The major benefit of attending the Lok Adalat is the opportunity to receive heavy rebates on fines, with reductions of up to 75 percent granted in past sessions. Citizens can also dispose of cases quickly without lengthy court procedures, pay only the reduced fine amount with no extra court fees, and leave with a legally binding settlement equivalent to a civil court decree.
The process is straightforward. Citizens must first check and download their pending challans from the Delhi Traffic Police website starting September 8. Next, they should complete the token registration form online to secure their appointment slot. After downloading and printing the token and appointment slip, they must attend the assigned court on September 13 with all required documents. Finally, they can present their case at the Lok Adalat, pay reduced fines, and obtain legal clearance of their challans.
Delhi is one of India’s busiest metropolitan regions with thousands of vehicles on the roads each day, and challans often accumulate due to forgetfulness, disputes, or the inability to pay fines. The September 2025 Lok Adalat offers citizens a chance to start fresh by clearing their dues with legal finality.
Beyond providing financial relief, the event also reduces judicial backlogs and promotes stronger compliance with traffic laws. For vehicle owners, this Lok Adalat is both a relief from penalties and a reminder of their responsibility to respect road rules. Register early, secure your token, and attend the Lok Adalat on September 13 to wipe your record clean and move forward responsibly.
