Well, if you have or haven’t guessed yet, let me not make you further wait because it is rose water which is the bucket of all the properties I have mentioned above. But wait, did you know that the rose water has been losing its charm with the passage of time? Although people prefer products with ingredients of rose water, customers do not seem to be bothered by how the rose water is prepared.
In other words, where the rose water makers don’t get into the hard work it takes to create the original pure rose water, the customers also are not much bothered by it. Everything is selling off well regardless of its background. This as a result affects those sellers’ businesses who put their hard work into making pure rose water with full devotion. It is laborious work, and there are rarely those who would not use shortcuts or misleading information of selling their products.
Luckily we have one such person who is keeping the craft of distilling the natural water with his hundreds of years old techniques. This man is Abdul Aziz kozgar from Srinagar who is preparing the natural essence in his same hundred-year-old shop.
What is special about Abdul Aziz Kozgar’s shop?
The training has been passed on to him by Aziz’s father as a family tradition. He has hence received thorough training and knowledge from his father. This is one of the reasons he loves to make rose water using his family’s traditional methodology.
Most importantly, this technique in their family has been running for 400 years. By now you must have guessed that Aziz’s family has been using a manual process of making rose water, right? Well, let me tell you that his ancestors had brought this hand technique to India from Turkey.
Sadly where Aziz has been keeping himself devoted to his ancestors’ traditional work all his life, the next generation does not seem to be interested in it. Hence, he is probably going to be the last one in line to keep the family tradition of making rose water alive. This traditional methodology is of the limit for the next generation because of the reason that it has a low profit because of no customer demand compared to how laborious the job is.
However, this does not budge Aziz as he is contended with his work and would keep his family tradition alive as long as he can and regardless of profit or no profit. He has even reserved his shop with a look which dates back a hundred years. It is rusty, the wooden shelves are dusty, and the bottles of perfumes and syrups are still in ancient packaging with a luxurious vibe.
Though a single bottle of his rose water does not cost more than 40 Rs, its packaging, quantity, quality, and purity are worth hundred rupees.
